A wonderful romance ensues as Kendra and Cody explore the river, the art of fly fishing, and each other. But turns out the story is one that is full of deception and ends in the fight of her life.

The story begins as Kendra heads to the mountains for a day’s fly fishing lesson. Her guide, Cody, is charming, eclectic, funny and enigmatic. The relationship evolves as they experience loss, grief and love together. One thing is certain: Cody has many surprises up his sleeve.

Throughout the memoir, based on the personal experiences of the writer, pictures are painted with words and the reader is transformed by the beautiful Rocky Mountain National Park Scenery. Kendra has a bear encounter, gets lost in the woods and is then saved by her fly fishing cowboy.

If not for Kendra’s faith, she may never have found the impulsive courage that ultimately saves her life.

The first of an expected trilogy, the other memoirs continuing her journey as a now survivor of domestic violence. Diagnosed with Complex PTSD and Major Depressive Disorder, the writer must learn to survive again – the road is difficult and fraught with heartache and despair as she discovers the awful truth about the man she married and tries to maintain her sanity.

While there certainly exist stories of domestic violence, I feel this one is different because of the special sort of evil that the antagonist, Cody, possesses. I believe he is on the spectrum and if properly diagnosed it would be clear that he is a malignant narcissist. Those with this diagnosis are conniving, dishonest, mirror their subjects, reel them in and suck them dry in countless ways.

And I had no idea.

All the names have been changed in the memoir, but not the locations.

Think “A River Runs Through It” meets “Dirty John” meets “Miracles From Heaven”!
